1 When my blinds are
open, everyone on the street can see me.
Because I live on the second floor.
2 One room in my apartment is always hotter than the other.
Because the AC unit is in the
living room.
3 When I clean my sheets, it never dries in one cycle.
There’s too
much to clean or the machine isn’t strong enough.
4 My apartment has flies every time I don’t wash the dishes
for a few days.
Because
flies are designed to be a nuisance on society.
5 My wardrobe is all the same colors.
Because I don’t
shop for my own clothes, my mom does for cheap.
6 My car is slowly falling apart.
It’s an old
car that I neglect.
7 Gainesville restaurants shut down on Saturdays for game
day.
Because for
some reason Gainesville loves football more than anything.
8 My apartment complex tows indiscriminately on home games.
Because tow
companies are opportunistic predators that feed off of legal loopholes.
9 My friends complain about the smell in my apartment building.
Because it
smells bad, but I can’t control that.
10 Every time I go to class I have to cross 13th
street, and I always miss the walk and must wait until the next walk before I
can cross.
I feel as though I walk at the
perfect pace that when I arrive at 13th street, I just missed the
light.
11 Women are really rude at bars and clubs.
Because
that’s the culture.
12 Alcohol is expensive.
Supply and
demand.
13 People are slow and timid drivers outside of Miami.
Because
most people aren’t raised in an urban setting in Gainesville.
14 The mere sight of a tow truck bothers me.
Because my friends
have been towed for stupid reasons.
15 Gainesville only has 10 mbs, 15 mbs, or 100 mbs internets
speeds, nothing in between.
Despite it being a college town,
they only offer these speeds. 10 and 15 mps are grosly over-priced. And 100 mbs
isn’t over-priced, but it’s expensive.
16 Fruits and vegetables expire very quickly.
I mostly
eat fruits and vegetables and it frustrates me.
17 I don’t have a dishwasher.
I live in
an older building.
18 I have to pay money to do laundry.
My
apartment doesn’t have laundry machines.
19 There are a ton of homeless people who ask me for money every
day. Why are they asking college students for money (a notoriously broke demographic)?
Gainesville itself is a poor town,
and the little money in it pretty much only goes to the university and
restaurants.
20 The fact that I have to take FAR1 to graduate.
UF comes up
with the rules.
Self reflection:
No real
challenges when coming up with the list. I usually internalize all of the
things that bug me, so finding somewhere to write them down was pretty easy. I
don’t like to complain very much, but if I had to, these are the twenty things
that came to mind first.
