Failure (26A)

I consider this class like one big failure. Believe it or not, the grade I will receive in this class will be the lowest grade I have received in college. This class has no exams or big assignments, just a lot of little assignments. As such, I thought it’d be okay to miss assignment here and there because it ultimately wouldn’t affect my grade. However, I neglected the class too much. I am forced to receive a B-, assuming I get every single point available. If I miss 2 points, I will receive a C+.
I realized that I thrive the most in courses whose grades rely on a few exams. These high stakes put me in a mentality which justifies allocating time and effort. That’s how I’ve been my entire life. There’s no one to blame but myself.
Failure is a necessary part of success. They go hand to hand like two sides of a coin. I personally handle failure quite well. I don’t get overly stressed about things, and when I fail I don’t get too upset. At the same time, I mostly find the cause for my success and failure to be my own doing (i.e. internal locus of control). This class hasn’t changed anything about me. I am excited to graduate because I have a well-paying job waiting for me when I leave.

  1. I understand your stand point of the class of how it can be easy to let a few assignments slip. There were times where I almost brushed off a few assignments, thinking that it would be okay, but caught myself so that it wouldn't affect my grade. Though, I'm glad that you were able to reflect upon this, and was able to see success in the end. Congrats on your job that awaits for you!

  2. Oh yes, the infamous times where I thought that I would have plenty of time to do assignments until the last day until it blew up in front of my face. These are failures that I learned during highschool that it wasn't worth the extra time of games or leisure sports to then have it directly affect my grades. These types of failures are inevitable and so I'm glad that you learned that these should be dealt with rather than neglected.

  3. Hey Mitchell,

I think that your post is extremely relatable and I feel you. There were many times when I contemplated doing assignments for this class because I figured I could afford to miss out on a couple little points, but I ended up doing them anyway because of my sub-par performance in other classes this semester which motivated me to strive for an A in this class, at least. I like how you analyzed yourself and determined your internal locus of control in this post. I think that you will have a lot of success in your new job and hope all the best for you once you graduate!

  4. Hi Mitch,

There were times when I thought I could skip on assignments too, but I did them very last minute. I would stay up late to do them. I guess I'm just a procrastinator. But good thing you caught yourself before it was way too late. Also, congrats on your job!

  5. OMG this is literally me!! I even considered dropping until I realized that means I have to pay full price glad I'm not the only one. I procrastinated too much and doing that with 3 assignments per week is a terrible idea. But it has taught me that I need to do alot better and stay on top of my own schedule. I've always been one to ignore little classes in favor of the hardest ones. But I need to focus on everything!
